Colour blindness refers to the inability of a person to distinguish between colors. A majority of people suffer from some form of color deficiency thus they may not be able to see the website with its full beauty. Therefore, to maximize the conversion rate by providing a better web experience to the color blind audience here are some useful tips for web design:
1. Color Combinations
Some color combinations such as Green & Grey, Green & Black, Blue & Grey, Green & Blue, Blue & Purple, Light Green & Yellow, Green & Brown, and Green & Red make it hard for individuals with color blindness thus they should be avoided.
2. Avoid same hue colors
Opt for colors that have different hues and temperature. This will allow color blind people to see the differences easily.
3. Use High Contrast
Discard dim colors and use bright ones that can provide better hue, brightness, saturation, and contrast.
4. Use thicker lines
Thin lines may make it hard for people with color blindness to identify colors. Further, in maps and infographics, texture can be used along with color to distinguish between objects.
5. Problematic colors shouldn’t be Used Side-By-Side
Do not use colors such as yellow, blue, pink, brown, green, and red side-by-side as these may create a blending effect.
6. Easy to Spot Links
Underline links and incorporate icons for easier spotting including the color blind audience as well.
7. Modify Brightness, Saturation, Hue
Instead of using different colors altering the brightness and hue of a single color may help in identifying objects easily.
8. Use both colors and symbols
In addition to color-coded text, descriptive text or symbolic elements should be added in design so that the things can be identified easily.
So, keep these tips in mind while designing websites for the color blind audience.
